About Quinton Fortune
A passionate South African footballer, Quinton gained the most attention for the time that he spent with Manchester United whom he signed for in 1999. He made his first appearance for the club against Newcastle United on 30 August and his first goal followed on Boxing Day 1999 against Bradford City. He then followed that up scoring twice against South Melbourne in the 2000 FIFA Club World Championship. Quinton was initially brought to Manchester United as cover for Ryan Giggs, and was thought of primarily as an attacking left-sided midfielder, but he proved himself a capable and dedicated player in a number of positions. It was his strength as a defender, rather than as an attacker, that Sir Alex Ferguson depended on most, and Fortune often filled in as a central midfielder or as a left-back.
As a Manchester United legend, Quinton now represents the club across the globe in various capacities and is a passionate supporter of youth football participation. He also works with the Manchester United Foundation helping raise money for good causes by taking part in various events.
